If you’ve arrived at this blog for the first time, or want to learn how I “arrived here,” who I am and what I do, this page will tell you …
3 Years Ago I Resigned From Teaching 8th Grade English
After 9 years of teaching in the public school system, I’d had enough. The combination of caring more about my students’ future than they cared about their own, along with the sad state of bureaucratic affairs in public education, and my own longing to create financial and time freedom came to a head. I quit.
This was my plan when I quit teaching …
Get two part time jobs and learn internet marketing, affiliate marketing, network marketing and all the skill sets that come with it. Then make money!
I dove in head first.
I hustled and worked on “my dream” every spare moment I had. I knew NOTHING about making money online, building a business or creating cash flow, but I ate, drank, dreamed and obsessed over this stuff.
Then I Met Mike Klingler
All this hustle got me noticed by Mike Klingler whose message and training resonated with me at that moment in time. I added-on a pile of value into his Renegade Professional community.
This led into terrific opportunities to work with him on some cools projects. Then Mike moved me out to Portland. We spent almost a year working across the table from one another. We had made big plans to build a social network site, but unfortunately, the project didn’t turn out the way we hoped, and I wound up leaving.
Despite the outcome, I wouldn’t take any of it back. No regrets.
As Mike famously said to me on my way out, ”Eric, you came here to learn, and I think you learned a lot.”
I sure did. Today, that experience in Portland stands as THE “inciting incident” that really helped me grow in business.
I Returned Back Home – Broke
Not destitute, but there simply wasn’t enough money in my bank account to support my family. So we moved in with Grandma.
As you might imagine, this was an extreme low point, but I got a bartending job, and never once thought of quitting on my home business dream. I just had to adjust my time scales.
Because there is one thing you ought to know…
It’s very difficult to build profits when you need wages. It’s very difficult to be creative when you’re in survival mode. I had to accept that I was more in survival mode than creative mode. Creating the time and financial freedom that I hoped to create was going to take longer than I anticipated.
We spent 3 months living at Grandmas.

Not only was I living with Grandma, I didn't have a car either. I'd toss the lap top in my backpack, hop on my bike and work at the library. Here I am on my way, giving my daughter Ella a kiss goodbye. Tough times, but a character building experience.
Then we moved into a less than glamorous 2 bedroom apartment on the dividing line between the nice side of town and the bad side of town. I put my head down and got to work.
Fast forward one year later, I have a much different view – literally. We’re out of the apartment, and now live in a large 5 bedroom house on a private spring fed lake 30 minutes outside of town.
It’s beautiful.
Here’s where we live now.
How I Did It And What I Recommend You Do
Like I said earlier, working with Mike Klingler was not a complete waste of time despite not achieving the desired outcome. I had the opportunity to work with Ann Sieg. Actually Ann Sieg is the reason why I found Mike Klingler in the first place. It wasn’t long after I was back home from Portland that I got a phone call from Ann Sieg.
She explained that she wanted to begin building an “Emerald City,” which was her way of describing the construction of a social media presence replete with a blog, Facebook page, and maintenance of Twitter and YouTube.
After several phone conversations, I accepted the position of Social Marketing Manager for Ann’s 80/20 Marketing Team.
This was definitely a step in the right direction, and I’ll tell you why…
- It put money back in my pocket, and afforded me a living wage that supported my family. I quickly got rid of the bar-tending gig (thank goodness), and put all my focus on serving Ann’s vision.
- There is no better means of learning marketing and the skill sets required to earn a full time income in this ever-evolving Internet economy than working with 6 and 7 figure earners who’ve already done what you’re trying to do. This is a FAR better education that buying their products.
- It keeps you “in the game.” Keeps your mind sharp. Keeps you connected to others who are either more successful than you are or have the same mindset and goals. Most importantly, gives you the opportunity to make quality relationships with influential people.
- It leads to other money-making opportunities. From WordPress blog installation, sales letters, coaching & consulting and other smaller-in-nature social media projects, I’ve sharpened my skills, made more money and propelled myself forward.
So When People Ask Me What I Do, Here’s How I Answer
I teach you the in-demand skills required for any endeavor to be a success and make you money, as it relates to the evolving Internet economy (the only economy that will continue to grow).
This includes the technicalities of setting up a sales and marketing funnel with blog, lead capture page, email follow ups, and integration of social media so that its set up to monetize.
I call this escape velocity. Escape velocity is when you create a “break out” plan that frees you from situations that are undesirable, and move you into something more fulfilling and sustainable for the unique you that is you.
Creating “escape velocity” so that you can create your “human business” is not limited to any certain demographic. You don’t have to be rich or poor; don’t have to be college educated or not; don’t have to have a family or have a family; doesn’t matter if you’re young or old; divorced or widowed; man or woman. Anybody at anytime with any variety of circumstances can create escape velocity, and I’m helping all walks do this.
Here’s 2 Key Factors That Will Determine Your Ability To Escape Velocity
- Desire to participate in your own success. The reality is that most people are merely spectators of their own life not participants. You must choose to be a participant.
- Ability to learn new skill sets.
What I’m Doing Now
In a nutshell, I’m helping people on a bigger scale.
If you’ve made it this far down the page, you now know my story, what I do, how I can help you, and a little bit about my philosophy. Now I’ll tell you what I’m doing and how you can participate.
You know that I earn my wages as a social media marketing manager, and independent contractor for various marketing projects. I’m living a good life. Time to live a super good life.
I truly believe with utmost faith and integrity that we can live the life of our dreams, but to do so, might have to suspend our disbelief for an extended period of time and have the discipline it takes to work toward our dreams every single day.

I enjoyed your story Eric…Thanks for sharing!
Eric,
This is a great post and I enjoyed reading it! Question for you RE: I added-on a pile of value into his Renegade Professional community.
I’m curious as to what exactly you brought to the table that was of such value?
It’s quite an inspiring story to say the least!
Dee,
That’s a very good question. Let me specific about it. . .
I hosted webinars for the community where I saw gaps and where people were struggling. I took action and took advantage of every opportunity to participate in the community as possible. For example, there was a program called “Super Guides,” and it was a lead sharing pool where us guides created content and guided other members of the community in exchange for leads. Within the Super Guides, I became a leader. I was EVERYWHERE… in comments, on YouTube, at BetterNetworker.com – everywhere. I promoted the products of that community for affiliate commissions (so I got some results). I treated people nicely and gained a positive reputation. That help?
This video might help too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlXg31Wnn2I&feature=channel_video_title I got into more depth.
